Awa to Maunga Wananga and Hikoi

NAU MAI HAERE MAI KI TENEI WANANGA

5th March 2017

KEAROA MARAE – APIRANA ROAD

Tena koutou katoa, Te Runanga o Ngati Kea Ngati Tuara Trust invite you to attend our Awa to Maunga wananga and hikoi, at Kearoa Marae, Horohoro, on the 5th March 2017. This is the second of two TARIT funded wananga where we explore our relationship with the Waikato River. This wananga will include a background of our physical relationship to the Waikato River and a hikoi from one of the sources of the Pokaitu awa, Waikarakia puna, up to the top of our maunga, Horohoro ringa a kahumatamoemoe.

This is the opportunity for iwi members to physically experience our pepeha, to stand on our maunga, see the source of our awa and be at our marae. Note the walk up Horohoro maunga is physically taxing so for those unable to undertake the hikoi, we will set up a base station at the foot of the maunga to enable people to wait for the walking roopu.  Those at base camp will also have the opportunity to visit Waikarakia while they are waiting.
