Cultural Trip 2018

10 FEBRUARY 2018 WAKA TRIP, LAKE ATIAMURI

Te Runanga o Ngati Kea Ngati Tuara Trust invites you to attend our waka trip for 2018.

Joining us will be the youth from the First Nations Lummi People who originate from Canada, specifically Washington’s northernmost coast and southern British Columbia.  Known as Lhaq’temish, the Lummi People celebrate life on the shores and waters of Puget Sound, and are known as the Canoe people.

A collaboration of both cultures where traditions and historical stories will be shared around the Waikato River.  Included will be a background of our physical relationship to the Waikato River, seeing where the Pokaitu Awa feeds into the Tahunaatara, to Lake Atiamuri and eventually the Waikato River.  Join us on a trip to share our journey!
