Ngāti Kea Ngāti Tuara Horohoro Native Tree Nursery Educational Scholarships

Tēnā koutou

Ngāti Kea Ngāti Tuara are investing in building the Horohoro Native Tree Nursery at Horohoro.  The aim is to build a thriving small-scale native tree and plant nursery that will help create beautiful landscapes for farms, land blocks and reserves while providing employment, vitality and profitability for Ngāti Kea Ngāti Tuara.

In the 2019 – 2020 year, Te Runanga o Ngāti Kea Ngāti Tuara and Te Paiaka Lands Trust are offering two scholarships to Ngāti Kea Ngāti Tuara students to complete the NZ Certificate in Horticulture (General) and NZ Certificate in Agriculture (Infrastructure) at Toi Ohomai.

These courses will help you to gain valuable nursery skills in seed propagation, plant care, pest control, pruning, soil science and landscape design along with agricultural skills in how to safely operate, fix and maintain farm vehicles and build and repair farming structures like fences, calf pens and sheds.

The courses are combined and commence in July 2019 and run for twelve months after which, if successfully completed, not only will your course fees be paid for you, but you will also be provided employment at the Horohoro Native Tree Nursery to fully utilise your new skills.

So if you prefer to work outdoors rather than in an office, you whakapapa to Ngāti Tuara Ngāti Kea and you’d like to help Ngāti Kea Ngāti Tuara build up our Horohoro Native Tree Nursery, then please click on the link below and complete the application form and drop off at the Runanga office, 28 Tarewa Rd, Rotorua or e-mail to Kataraina@ngatikeangatituara.com by 5pm Friday 14 June 2019.
