Governance and Trust
Te Rūnanga O Ngāti Kearoa Ngāti Tuara is a post-settlement governance entity that was formed to manage and distribute assets and funds to the benefit of Ngāti Kearoa Ngāti Tuara members. We are committed to ensuring the sustainability and growth of our hapū for future generations.
Our Vision
Kai Horohoro koe e puke whakamana.
At Horohoro you will be found, o prestigious mountain.
Our vision reflects the strength and resilience of our maunga (mountain), Horohoro. It speaks to the legacy and honor of our people, whose foundations are rooted in the land, ensuring we stand strong and proud like the mountain itself.
Our Mission
Maximise our collective strengths to achieve inter-generational aspirations.
We aim to unite and empower our people, harnessing the collective knowledge and resources of the hapū, ensuring that our future generations can thrive and carry forward the legacy we have built.
Our Guiding Principles
Our guiding principles reflect the teachings of our tupuna (ancestors) and continue to shape the way we govern and serve our people.
1. Ngāti Kearoa Ngāti Tuaratanga – Ka whai mai i ngā taonga tuku iho
We commit to protecting, upholding, and nurturing our traditional knowledge – our whakapapa (genealogy), reo (language), tikanga (customs), and the stories that make us who we are.
2. Kaitiakitanga – Hei pupuri te mana o te whenua, hei pupuri te kaha o te tangata
We are the guardians of our whenua (land), waterways, and taonga (treasures). Through kaitiakitanga, we protect and restore the natural world, ensuring its strength and sustainability for future generations.
3. Manaakitanga – Mā te manaaki i te tangata, e tū ai te mana
We practice manaakitanga, offering hospitality, care, and respect for all people. By caring for each other and the community, we ensure that the mana (prestige) of our people remains strong.
